Italian dairy company Parmalat began sponsoring Brabham in 1978 when Niki Lauda joined the team. Brabham was now owned by Bernie Ecclestone, and Gordon Murray was chief designer. With the arrival of Nelson Piquet in 1980, the team's performances drastically improved, with Piquet winning the title in 1981 and 83. After a few unsuccessful years, Ecclestone sold the team to Joachim Luti.
